The Houston Racquet Club is situated in a woodsy area backing up on Buffalo Bayou. When the club started to re-model they wanted to provide privacy to the member's lounge from the upper level banquet room while allowing light into the banquet room from the large windows in the lounge. We designed the wall to provide maximum privacy while still allowing open areas at the top. We used the native sycamore as a design motif. We used applied faceted jewels for a bit of sparkle. Several years later when they remodeled the lower level and added another banquet room, the only thing they all agreed on was to use more carved glass. For the lower level, the designer wanted to go with a Mediteranean villa feel. We used palms, bouganvilla, hibiscus, mandevilla, and ferns placed against a backdrop of iron railings and a patio that opened up to a vista. Again, privacy was a necessary part of the design.
